This artwork by Jean-Jacques-François Le Barbier achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in New York in January 2014. In the Old Master Paintings auction, the work "La Chasse Aux Papillons," An Allegory Of Beauty Attempting To Restrain Inconstancy sold for USD 749,000.00 (€ 554,814.81) - well above the upper estimate of USD 400,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Jean-Jacques-François Le Barbier; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot La Magnanimite de Lycurgue (The Magnanimity of Lycurgus) sold at auction in October 2021 with the realized price of USD 1,050,000.00 (€ 908,933.52).
