This artwork by Jean Ferdinand Monchablon achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in New York in April 2020. In the European Paintings, Drawings & Sculpture auction, the work La Saône À Châtillon, Le Soir (Vosges) sold for USD 25,000.00 (€ 22,820.63) - well above the upper estimate of USD 12,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Jean Ferdinand Monchablon; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Fresnes sold at auction in January 2011 with the realized price of USD 34,375.00 (€ 25,063.80).
