This artwork by Jean-Baptiste Greuze achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in New York in January last year. In the Master Works on Paper from Five Centuries auction, the work Study of the head of a man, seen in profile, his mouth agape with an expression of anger sold for USD 176,400.00 (€ 157,331.43) - well above the upper estimate of USD 70,000.00. Admittedly, works by Jean-Baptiste Greuze have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work The Hermit, Or The Distributor Of Rosaries in February 2013 with an auction result of USD 1,082,500.00 (€ 827,662.67).
Oberer Schätzpreis um mehr als 100% übertroffen
Dieses Kunstwerk von Jean-Baptiste Greuze erzielte im Januar letzten Jahres bei Sothebys in New York einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion Master Works on Paper from Five Centuries wurde die Arbeit Study of the head of a man, seen in profile, his mouth agape with an expression of anger für USD 176.400,00 (€ 157.331,43) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von USD 70.000,00. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Jean-Baptiste Greuze auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit The Hermit, Or The Distributor Of Rosaries im Februar 2013 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 1.082.500,00 (€ 827.662,67).
