Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
In January this year Christies in New York held the auction Old Master Paintings and Sculpture Online, which included the work A young boy holding a candle teasing a sleeping woman by Jan Verkolje the Elder. Here, the upper estimate of USD 15,000.00 was slightly exceeded - the artwork found a new owner for USD 16,380.00 (€ 15,085.65). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Jan Verkolje the Elder - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A Portrait Of Two Sisters And Their Brother Playing With A Dog, which sold at auction in December 2011 for GBP 31,250.00 (€ 37,426.29).
