This artwork by Jan van Huysum achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in New York in January 2009. In the Old Master Drawings auction, the work A Basket Of Flowers On A Plinth sold for USD 27,500.00 (€ 21,477.66) - well above the upper estimate of USD 15,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Jan van Huysum achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Green grapes on the vine with morning glory, pink and white hollyhocks, a red opium poppy, a walnut, hazelnuts, a split melon, a pomegranate, black grapes, redcurrants, raspberries, greengage plums and other fruit with a wicker basket of black cherri in July 2005 with an auction result of GBP 3,760,000.00 (€ 5,453,

Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Jan van Huysum erzielen.
