Artwork auctioned at three times the upper estimate price
When the work Portrait of Prince Maurits (1576-1625), bust-length, in armour with a white collar and an orange sash; and Portrait of Prince Willem II (1626-1650), bust-length, in armour with a flat white collar with tassels and a blue sash by Jan Stolker was auctioned at Christies in Amsterdam in May 2016, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at - in retrospect quite modest - EUR 1,500.00 but the actual price achieved was more than three times as high However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Jan Stolker - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Eight portraits, all small bust-length, of Hendrick Dubbels (1620-1676) after Ludolf Bakhuyzen, Mattheus G*** (active c.1500), Desiderius Erasmus of Rotterdam (c. 1466-1536), Joachim Beuckelaer (c.1530-1573), Wendel Dieterlyn (?), Gillis Mostert (c.1, which sold at auction in June 2002 for USD 11,352.50 (€ 11,518.36).
Kunstwerk zum Dreifachen des oberen Schätzpreises versteigert
Als die Arbeit Portrait of Prince Maurits (1576-1625), bust-length, in armour with a white collar and an orange sash; and Portrait of Prince Willem II (1626-1650), bust-length, in armour with a flat white collar with tassels and a blue sash von Jan Stolker im Mai 2016 bei Christies in Amsterdam versteigert wurde, übertraf das Ergebnis die Erwartungen um ein Vielfaches.
