Auction result well in line with expectations
The work The Virgin And Child by Jan van Bijlert was sold in the Old Master Paintings Part I auction at Christies in New York in January 2013. The price achieved of USD 92,500.00 (€ 68,094.82) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 80,000.00 – 120,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Jan van Bijlert - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Portrait of a young boy, full-length, in an embroidered yellow dress and white lace collar and cuffs, a cane in his left hand, proferring a biscuit to a dog begging on a table, before a red curtain, which sold at auction in January 2007 for GBP 131,200.00 (€ 197,950.70).
