A top price for Jan Steen - as previously expected
In December 2012 Sothebys in London held the auction Including Three Renaissance Masterworks from Chatsworth, which included the work The Prayer Before The Meal by Jan Steen. The price achieved of GBP 5,641,250.00 (€ 6,957,227.93) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 5,000,000.00 – 7,000,000.00. Even if this result could not surprise positively, The Prayer Before The Meal is the most expensive artwork by Jan Steen that we have observed at auctions so far.

Im Dezember 2012 führte Sothebys in London die Auktion Including Three Renaissance Masterworks from Chatsworth durch, in der auch die Arbeit The Prayer Before The Meal von Jan Steen zur Versteigerung kam. Der dabei erzielte Preis von GBP 5.641.250,00 (€ 6.957.227,93) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit GBP 5.000.000,00 – 7.000.000,00 angegeben worden. Auch wenn das Ergebnis damit nicht positiv überraschen konnte, ist The Prayer Before The Meal das teuerste Kunstwerk von Jan Steen, das wir bisher bei Auktionen beobachtet haben.
