Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by Jan Griffier the Elder could be acquired at Christies in London in April 2008 for an unexpectedly low price. In the Old Masterand British Pictures auction, the work A Hermit Praying Before A Tomb, A Landscape With Ruins Beyond changed hands for GBP 6,875.00 (€ 8,764.65) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of GBP 7,000.00 – 10,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Jan Griffier the Elder achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A winter landscape with figures ice skating, a village and castle beyond in July 2021 with an auction result of GBP 252,000.00 (€ 295,522.25).
