The »bidding war« ended at USD 2,750.00 (€ 2,452.73), 38% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by Jan de Bisschop have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Portrait Of René Descartes, Bust-Length And Leaning On A Ledge, In A Fictive Arch in July 2001 with an auction result of GBP 12,925.00 (€ 21,047.43).

Die Arbeit Two groups of men by an altar, after the antique von Jan de Bisschop wurde im Januar letzten Jahres in der Auktion Old Master & British Drawings bei Christies in New York versteigert. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von USD 2.750,00 (€ 2.452,73) und damit 38% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Jan de Bisschop auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Portrait Of René Descartes, Bust-Length And Leaning On A Ledge, In A Fictive Arch im Juli 2001 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 12.925,00 (€ 21.047,43).
