Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by Jan Both could be acquired at Sothebys in London in July 2007 for an unexpectedly low price. In the Old Master Paintings Evening auction, the work An Extensive River Landscape With Herdsmen Resting Their Goats Under A Tree changed hands for GBP 108,000.00 (€ 160,404.93) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of GBP 120,000.00 – 180,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Jan Both achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work An Italianate evening landscape with a muleteer and goatherds on a wooded path, a river and mountains beyond in July 2000 with an auction result of GBP 1,433,750.00 (€ 2,318,354.87).
