Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Le Café Sidi Mohammed Sheriff, Situé Près De La Mosquée Sidi-Sheriff À Algerjan-Baptist Huysmans ; The Coffeehouse Sidi-Mohammed Sheriff Near The Mosque Sidi-Sheriff In Algiers ; Signed, Located And Dated Alger 1868 Lower Right ; Oil On Cardboard by Jan Baptist Huysmans was sold in the Regards sur l'Orient: Orientalist Paintings and Sculptures - Islamic Art auction at Sothebys in Paris in June 2010. The price achieved of EUR 3,750.00 was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as EUR 3,000.00 – 5,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Jan Baptist Huysmans achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Un nuage en plein soleil: A plume of smoke in July 2008 with an auction result of GBP 217,250.00 (€ 276,018.57).
