Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Portrait of a lady, half-length, in a black dress with a ruff, gold chains around her neck and waist, lace headdress and a jewel in her hair by Jan Anthonisz. van Ravesteyn was auctioned at Christies in London in September 2011. The price achieved of GBP 32,450.00 (€ 37,697.88) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 25,000.00 – 40,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Jan Anthonisz. van Ravesteyn achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of a gentleman, three-quarter-length, in a black coat and lace collar; and Portrait of a lady, three-quarter-length, in a black dress with gold trim and a lace collar and headdress in April 2007 with an auction result of USD 712,000.00 (€ 521,229.87).
