Auction result well in line with expectations
The work The Cowran Cut; Carlisle (Newcastle To Carlisle Railway) by John Wilson Carmichael was sold in the British & Irish Art auction at Sothebys in London in December 2014. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 20,000.00 – 30,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 21,250.00 (€ 27,355.80) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by John Wilson Carmichael have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work The Opening Engagement At Trafalgar; H.M.S. 'Royal Sovereign' Raking The Stern Of The Spanish Flagship 'Santa Ana' in January 2018 with an auction result of GBP 237,000.00 (€ 270,601.06).
