In the British, Continental & Russian Pictures & Prints auction, the work A quiet stretch of river sold for GBP 1,440.00 (€ 2,138.73) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 800.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by James Riddel - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Portrait of a lady, seated three-quarter-length, in a white dress and black coat, in an interior, which sold at auction in November 2000 for GBP 3,055.00 (€ 4,993.28).
