Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Portrait of Sir James Worseley Taylor, seated three-quarter-length, in a dark blue coat and waistcoat by James Lonsdale was sold in the British and Victorian Paintings auction at Christies in London in September 2005. The price achieved of GBP 960.00 (€ 1,408.87) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 800.00 – 1,200.00. Admittedly, works by James Lonsdale have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Portrait of Rear-Admiral William Bateman Dashwood, half-length, in Naval dress uniform; and Portrait of his wife, Louisa Henrietta Dashwood, half-length, in a white dress, seated before a landscape in May 2003 with an auction result of GBP 4,935.00 (€ 6,875.70).
