Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by James Lonsdale could be acquired at Christies in New York in December 2004 for an unexpectedly low price. In the THE HOUSE SALE auction, the work Portrait Of Edward Adolphus, 11Th Duke Of Somerset (1775-1855), Three-Quarter Length changed hands for USD 2,390.00 (€ 1,765.40) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of USD 3,000.00 – 5,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by James Lonsdale - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Portrait of Rear-Admiral William Bateman Dashwood, half-length, in Naval dress uniform; and Portrait of his wife, Louisa Henrietta Dashwood, half-length, in a white dress, seated before a landscape, which sold at auction in May 2003 for GBP 4,935.00 (€ 6,875.70).
