A top price for James Lonsdale - as previously expected
The work Portrait of Rear-Admiral William Bateman Dashwood, half-length, in Naval dress uniform; and Portrait of his wife, Louisa Henrietta Dashwood, half-length, in a white dress, seated before a landscape by James Lonsdale was auctioned at Christies in London in May 2003. It changed hands for a price of GBP 4,935.00 (€ 6,875.70) achieving a result in the upper range of the estimate price range of GBP 3,000.00 – 5,000.00. Even if this result could not surprise positively, Portrait of Rear-Admiral William Bateman Dashwood, half-length, in Naval dress uniform; and Portrait of his wife, Louisa Henrietta Dashwood, half-length, in a white dress, seated before a landscape is the most expensive artwork by James Lonsdale that we have observed at auctions so far.
