In February 2003 Christies in London held the auction THE FORBES COLLECTION OF VICTORIAN PICTURES AND WORKS OF ART, which included the work Darby and Joan by James Charles. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 26,290.00 (€ 38,382.57), 46% above the upper estimate. With this result, Darby and Joan is even the most expensive work of art by James Charles that we have observed at auctions so far.
