In May 2004 Christies in Melbourne held the auction AUSTRALIAN, INTERNATIONAL AND CONTEMPORARY PAINTINGS, which included the work On Guard by James Alfred Turner. The »bidding war« ended at AUD 101,575.00 (€ 59,347.00), 45% above the upper estimate. With this result, On Guard is even the most expensive work of art by James Alfred Turner that we have observed at auctions so far.
