Auction result misses estimated price range
In January 2009 a collector was able to acquire the work Cavalry in a valley rounding up a group of peasants and their livestock by Jacques François Joseph Swebach-Desfontaines for USD 8,750.00 (€ 6,833.80). This price was achieved in the auction Old Master and 19th Century Drawings at Christies in New York and was even below the estimate range of USD 10,000.00 – 15,000.00 set by the auction house. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Jacques François Joseph Swebach-Desfontaines - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A Military Encampment At The Edge Of A Forest, which sold at auction in June 2007 for GBP 16,800.00 (€ 24,930.36).
