Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Heraclitus by Jacob Toorenvliet was auctioned at Christies in Amsterdam in November 2016, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of EUR 4,000.00 – 6,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for EUR 2,750.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Jacob Toorenvliet achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Rabbinical Discussion in January 2011 with an auction result of USD 104,500.00 (€ 76,193.95).
