Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Sheep Grazing Among Classical Monuments by Jacob Simonsz. van der Does was auctioned at Sothebys in London in July 2018, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 2,500.00 – 3,500.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 2,375.00 (€ 2,662.90). Other works by Jacob Simonsz. van der Does have also sold for higher prices; the highest price we have seen at auction so far was achieved in June 2007 by the work Landscape With Herders Tending To Their Livestock Outside Of A Barn at USD 5,400.00 (€ 3,994.08).
