This artwork by Jack McConville achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in London in March 2021. In the Contemporary Art | London auction, the work The Unexpected Lesson sold for GBP 1,512.00 (€ 1,776.21) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 800.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Jack McConville; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Rokeby Candy sold at auction in December 2019 with the realized price of GBP 1,750.00 (€ 2,068.30).
