The price achieved of GBP 2,375 (€ 2,857) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been given by the auction house as GBP 2,000 - 3,000. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Imao Keinen - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Keinen kacho gafu [Keinen's natural history paintings Kyoto: S. Nishimura, 1891. 4 volumes in two, 2° (366 x 255mm). 6pp. text. 138 coloured wood-block plates on 163 leaves (including 25 'diptych' plates).
