Auction result well in line with expectations
The work A complete set of four volumes of Keinen gafu Keinen's sketch-book, complete with chitsu case, very good impressions, colours and condition (4) by Imao Keinen was sold in the Japanese Art and Design auction at Christies in London in July 2005. The price achieved of GBP 1,440.00 (€ 2,088.71) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 1,200.00 – 1,800.00. Admittedly, works by Imao Keinen have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Keinen kacho gafu [Keinen's natural history paintings Kyoto: S. Nishimura, 1891. 4 volumes in two, 2° (366 x 255mm). 6pp. text. 138 coloured wood-block plates on 163 leaves (including 25 'diptych' plates). Der dabei erzielte Preis von GBP 1.440,00 (€ 2.088,71) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit GBP 1.200,00 – 1.800,00 angegeben worden. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Imao Keinen auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Keinen kacho gafu [Keinen's natural history paintings Kyoto: S.
