Despite a disappointment, a good price for Hugues Taraval
When the work The Feast of Tantalus; and Phineus interrupting the wedding banquet of Perseus and Andromeda by Hugues Taraval was auctioned at Christies in New York in May 2000, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 130,000.00 – 160,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 94,000.00 (€ 100,771.87). Despite this disappointing result, The Feast of Tantalus; and Phineus interrupting the wedding banquet of Perseus and Andromeda is the most expensive artwork by Hugues Taraval that we have observed at auction so far.
