Auction result misses estimated price range
In May 2000 a collector was able to acquire the work The Death of Antiochus by Hugues Taraval for USD 4,700.00 (€ 5,038.59). This price was achieved in the auction Old Master Paintings from the Lagerfeld Collection at Christies in New York and was even below the estimate range of USD 8,000.00 – 12,000.00 set by the auction house. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Hugues Taraval achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Feast of Tantalus; and Phineus interrupting the wedding banquet of Perseus and Andromeda in May 2000 with an auction result of USD 94,000.00 (€ 100,771.87).
