Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Hugh Thomson achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in June 2005. In the British and Continental Watercolours auction, the work A Token of Love sold for GBP 1,080.00 (€ 1,600.63) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 500.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Hugh Thomson; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot A Fountain In Saint James'S Park sold at auction in June 2001 with the realized price of GBP 1,527.50 (€ 2,537.48).
