Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by Horace van Ruith could be acquired at Christies in London in January 2006 for an unexpectedly low price. In the British and Continental Pictures auction, the work Portrait of a gentleman, bust-length, wearing a black jacket and spectacles changed hands for GBP 240.00 (€ 351.77) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of GBP 300.00 – 500.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Horace van Ruith achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Untitled (A Brahmin Household) in March 2017 with an auction result of USD 384,500.00 (€ 359,412.97).
