Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work An Urn, Garlanded With Flowers With Various Insects And Snails On A Stone Ledge by Herman Henstenburgh was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in January 2015, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 20,000.00 – 30,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 18,750.00 (€ 16,607.62). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Herman Henstenburgh - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A King Bird Of Paradise (Cicinnurius Regius) And A Spiderhunter (Arachnothera), which sold at auction in January 2011 for USD 74,500.00 (€ 54,320.09).
