In January 2011 Sothebys in New York held the auction Old Master Drawings, which included the work A King Bird Of Paradise (Cicinnurius Regius) And A Spiderhunter (Arachnothera) by Herman Henstenburgh. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 70,000.00 – 90,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 74,500.00 (€ 54,320.09) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Even if this result could not surprise positively, A King Bird Of Paradise (Cicinnurius Regius) And A Spiderhunter (Arachnothera) is the most expensive artwork by Herman Henstenburgh that we have observed at auctions so far.
