Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Portrait of a Lady standing three-quarter-length in a green dress holding a fan (recto), a seated model (verso) by Henry Perronet Briggs was auctioned at Christies in London in May 2000, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 200.00 – 300.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 164.50 (€ 263.96). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Henry Perronet Briggs achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A Scene from 'The Adventures of Ferdinand Count Fathom' by Tobias Smollet: 'A wounded officer of Hussars having had the good fortune to take a Turkish standard, had wrapped it round his body, that whatever might happen he and his glory should not be in February 2003 with an auction result of GBP 22,705.00 (€
Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit A Scene from 'The Adventures of Ferdinand Count Fathom' by Tobias Smollet: 'A wounded officer of Hussars having had the good fortune to take a Turkish standard, had wrapped it round his body, that whatever might happen he and his glory should not be im Februar 2003 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 22.70
