Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Portrait of Arthur Wellesley, 1St Duke of Wellington (1769-1852), Three-Quarter Length, Standing, Wearing A Coat With The Order of The Golden Fleece And The Waterloo Medal by Henry Perronet Briggs was auctioned at Christies in New York in September 2004. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 10,000.00 – 15,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 10,755.00 (€ 8,661.51) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Henry Perronet Briggs - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A Scene from 'The Adventures of Ferdinand Count Fathom' by Tobias Smollet: 'A wounded officer of Hussars having had the good fortune to take a Turkish standard, had wrapped it round his body, that whatever might happen he and his glory should not be, which sold at auction in February 2003 for GBP 22,705.00 (€ 33,1
