Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Portrait of John Scott, 1st Earl of Eldon (1751-1838), seated three-quarter-length, in a black coat, a letter addressed to 'Lady Elizabeth Repton, New Norfolk Street' on a table to the left by Henry Perronet Briggs was sold in the Property From Encombe, Dorset & La Chasse, Jersey auction at Christies in London in January 2007. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 1,000.00 – 1,500.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 1,080.00 (€ 1,629.47) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Henry Perronet Briggs achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work [A Scene from 'The Adventures of Ferdinand Count Fathom' by Tobias Smollet: 'A wounded officer of Hussars having had the good fortune to take a Turkish standard, had wrapped it round his body, that whatever might happen he and his glory should not be|AID9000

Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit [A Scene from 'The Adventures of Ferdinand Count Fathom' by Tobias Smollet: 'A wounded officer of Hussars having had the good fortune to take a Turkish standard, had wrapped it round his body, that whatever
