Artwork auctioned at five times the upper estimate price
The work The Caricaturist and the Doleful Model (i); The guest who was told to make himself at home - And did so (ii) by Henry Mayo Bateman was worth GBP 15,000.00 (€ 16,919.54) to a buyer in November 2018. This price was achieved in the auction Annabel's at Christies in London and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of GBP 3,000.00 many times over. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Henry Mayo Bateman - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Honour was satisfied in the season in retrospect (i); Demonstration of the new flexible fowling piece for crack shots (ii), which sold at auction in November 2018 for GBP 32,500.00 (€ 36,659.01).
