Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work An Officer of the 11th Prince Albert's Own Hussars by Henry Martens was auctioned at Christies in London in July 2008, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 1,200.00 – 1,800.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 937.50 (€ 1,191.10). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Henry Martens - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The cavalry regiments: The 2nd Dragoon Guards (The Royal Scots Greys) and the 19th Lancers at a mounted review, circa 1850, which sold at auction in November 2010 for GBP 3,250.00 (€ 3,883.75).
