Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Absalom Inviting David And His Brothers To A Feast, From: The Story Of Amnon And Tamar by Heinrich Aldegrever was auctioned at Christies in London in December 2014, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 600.00 – 800.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 375.00 (€ 482.75). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Heinrich Aldegrever achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Lazarus begging for Crumbs from Dives's Table (Luke 16:19-31) in January 2000 with an auction result of USD 156,500.00 (€ 160,397.66).
