Upper estimate price exceeded by 70 %.
The work Bodhidharma And Calligraphy by Hakuin Ekaku was sold in the Fine Japanese and Korean Works of Art auction at Bonhams in March this year. The »bidding war« ended at USD 5,100.00 (€ 4,690.95), 70% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Hakuin Ekaku achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Namu Nikko Tosho Daishinkun (I Call On The Lord of Nikko Toshogu Shrine) in March 2006 with an auction result of USD 120,000.00 (€ 98,854.93).
