Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
In May this year Bonhams held the auction Samurai, Beauties, and Townsmen | Japanese Art in Peace and War, which included the work Kan'u, God of War by Hakuin Ekaku. Here, the upper estimate of GBP 8,000.00 was slightly exceeded - the artwork found a new owner for GBP 8,670.00 (€ 10,087.60). Admittedly, works by Hakuin Ekaku have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Namu Nikko Tosho Daishinkun (I Call On The Lord of Nikko Toshogu Shrine) in March 2006 with an auction result of USD 120,000.00 (€ 98,854.93).
