Despite a disappointment, a good price for Gustave Jacquet
When the work French la Bienvenue by Gustave Jacquet was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in November 2017, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 400,000.00 – 600,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 375,000.00 (€ 315,179.02). Despite this disappointing result, French la Bienvenue is the most expensive artwork by Gustave Jacquet that we have observed at auction so far.
