Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Le Jardin fleuriste, Yerres by Gustave Caillebotte was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in May last year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 3,500,000.00 – 5,000,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 2,954,000.00 (€ 2,752,772.34). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Gustave Caillebotte achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Jeune homme à sa fenêtre in November 2021 with an auction result of USD 53,030,000.00 (€ 46,983,255.07).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Le Jardin fleuriste, Yerres von Gustave Caillebotte im Mai letzten Jahres bei Sothebys in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 3.500.000,00 – 5.000.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 2.954.000,00 (€ 2.752.772,34) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Gustave Caillebotte erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Jeune homme à sa fenêtre im November 2021 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 53.030.000,00 (€ 46.983.255,07).
