The »bidding war« ended at GBP 2,339,000.00 (€ 2,685,821.82), 56% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Gustave Caillebotte achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Jeune homme à sa fenêtre in November 2021 with an auction result of USD 53,030,000.00 (€ 46,983,255.07).

Die Arbeit Portrait d’Eugène Daufresne lisant von Gustave Caillebotte wurde im Oktober diesen Jahres in der Auktion Masterpieces from the Collection of Sam Josefowitz: A Lifetime of Discovery and Scholarship bei Christies in Amsterdam versteigert. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 2.339.000,00 (€ 2.685.821,82) und damit 56% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Gustave Caillebotte erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Jeune homme à sa fenêtre im November 2021 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 53.030.000,00 (€ 46.983.255,07).
