Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Australian wunderkind (Diptych) by Guan Wei was auctioned at Sothebys in Melbourne in August 2008, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of AUD 10,000.00 – 15,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for AUD 9,000.00 (€ 5,253.73). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Guan Wei achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Playing With String in April 2011 with an auction result of HKD 1,100,000.00 (€ 95,594.09).
