Auction result well in line with expectations
In July this year Bonhams in London held the auction Old Master Paintings, which included the work Study for Saint John the Baptist by Giovanni Francesco Barbieri. The price achieved of GBP 51,200.00 (€ 59,734.88) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 40,000.00 – 60,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Giovanni Francesco Barbieri achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work King David in July 2010 with an auction result of GBP 5,193,250.00 (€ 6,244,298.00).
