Auction result well in line with expectations
In July 2017 Christies in London held the auction Old Masters Evening Sale, which included the work Trajan and the Widow: a cassone panel by Giovanni di ser Giovanni Guidi. The price achieved of GBP 401,000.00 (€ 447,454.42) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 300,000.00 – 500,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Giovanni di ser Giovanni Guidi - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The Story of Coriolanus: a cassone front, which sold at auction in January 2024 for USD 1,562,500.00 (€ 1,365,582.94).
