This artwork by Giovanni Battista Franco achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in New York in January 2008. In the The Jeffrey E. Horvitz Collection of Italian Drawings auction, the work A Male Nude Holding A Dagger, With A Subsidiary Sketch Of A Woman And Child At The Right Corner sold for USD 301,000.00 (€ 202,816.52) - well above the upper estimate of USD 120,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Giovanni Battista Franco; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Deux Études De Squelettes sold at auction in March 2021 with the realized price of EUR 250,000.00.
