Auction result well in line with expectations
The work 'Signs That Say What You Want Them To Say And Not Signs That Say What Someone Else Wants You To Say', 1994 by Gillian Wearing was sold in the Photographs auction at Sothebys in London in May 2017. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 3,000.00 – 5,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 3,250.00 (€ 3,732.76) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Gillian Wearing achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Self-Portrait at 17 Years Old (from Album) in May last year with an auction result of USD 63,000.00 (€ 58,708.41).
