Giacinto Gigante's drawings show a particular interest in Naples, the artist's hometown, as well as its famous surrounding landscape. Like his master, the Dutchman Antoon Sminck Pitloo, Gigante drew and painted all'aperto (outdoors), giving his drawings a fresh and immediate quality. Both Pitloo and Gigante were part of the informal group of Neapolitan painters known as the Scuola di Posillipo, of which the former was the founder. The work A view of the Bay of Naples from the Vomero by Giacinto Gigante was sold in the The Lure of Naples: A Private Collection of Italian Views auction at Christies in London in November 2017. It achieved a price of GBP 4,375.00 (€ 4,966.28), exceeding the upper end of the estimate range by 25%. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Giacinto Gigante achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Tramonto a Bacoli in November 2002 with an auction result of EUR 86,800.00.

Die Arbeit A view of the Bay of Naples from the Vomero von Giacinto Gigante wurde im November 2017 in der Auktion The Lure of Naples: A Private Collection of Italian Views bei Christies in London versteigert. Sie erzielte dabei einen Preis von GBP 4.375,00 (€ 4.966,28) und übertraf damit das obere Ende der Schätzpreisspanne um 25%. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Giacinto Gigante erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Tramonto a Bacoli im November 2002 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von EUR 86.800,00.
