In January this year Christies in New York held the auction Remastered: Old Masters from the Collection of J.E. Safra - Selling Without Reserve, which included the work The Marriage of Peleus and Thetis by Gerard de Lairesse. The »bidding war« ended at USD 819,000.00 (€ 754,282.56), 37% above the upper estimate. With this result, The Marriage of Peleus and Thetis is even the most expensive work of art by Gerard de Lairesse that we have observed at auctions so far.
